Football - when Claire is imprisoned at the Duke of Sandringham's house she yells and pounds on the door after seeing Hugh Munro captured from her window, but no-one answers her cries. Mary Hawkins visits her the next morning and asks Claire to speak in a quieter voice, to which Claire replies, 'It doesn't matter much, that door's so thick, nothing short of a football match could be heard through it' (DIA, chapter 44) It is not clear whether Claire is referring to American football or soccer.
Monopoly - When Jamie asks Claire why she doesn't just tell him to go to the devil when he gets crotchety at her for being sick a lot while pregnant, she bursts out laughing and says: "Go to hell, Jamie. Go directly to hell. Do not pass Go. Do not collect two hundred dollars". This is a reference to the 'Go to Jail' card found in both the Chance and Community Chest card sets in the game of Monopoly (DIA, chapter 9)
