Bouton - Mother Hildegarde's dog. Bouton is a small white dog who looks like a cross between a poodle and a dachshund. He has a rough, kinky coat, a wide belly and stumpy, bowed legs. Bouton means 'button' and he has a small black button nose. Bouton has the ability to sniff out infection and illness and he accompanies Mother Hildegarde on her rounds (DIA, chapter 12) Every dog Mother Hildegarde owns is called Bouton. When Claire revisits Mother Hildegarde after returning through the stones the dog she has is Bouton number 16 (V, chapter 40)
Bouton XVI - the dog Mother Hildegarde has when Claire returns through the stones. This Bouton is coal-black with hair as curly as a Persian lamb (V, chapter 40)
Bozo - a dog owned by Claire, Frank and Bree. Bozo died of old age in 1967 (V, chapter 19)
Bran - the Fraser's staghound who greets Jamie joyously when he returns home to Lallybroch. Bran is black and tan (Outlander, chapter 26)
Cobhar - the horse that Jamie lets Hamish ride after stopping him from trying to ride Donas. Cobhar is a bay (Outlander, chapter 24)
Donas - described as a "huge, evil-tempered sorrel stallion". Jamie and Auld Alec are breaking in Donas at Castle Leoch (Outlander, chapter 24) Jamie rides Donas to rescue Claire from the witch trial and Donas's speed allows him to get there on time (Outlander, chapter 25) The name Donas is given to all the sorrel colts descended from the original Donas. When Claire returns through the stones there is another horse called Donas at Lallybroch who is Donas's grandson (V, chapter 38)
